mind map software |

I have considered using mind maps to organize my thoughts and ideas. A mind map is just a way of arranging items with branches off to related items. Here is a description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_map
So I bought a spinal bound notebook with blank pages so I could draw them by hand. The problem is once they are written down, I can not re-arrange the branches if a part of the paper gets too crowded. So the solution would be a software program to electronically re-arrange the branches as the ideas grow. I need something flexible and easy to manipulate so it can create and change mind maps as fast as I think.
There are many software options out there; just type "free mind map software" into Google and get 49 million hits. OK, now even the most ADD of us does not want to read all those web sites! So I thought I would ask on here to see if anyone else has used or researched mind map software.
I see that a few have discussed mind maps on here in the past. Here is a series of comments about it. The topic starts about "50 tips", but just scroll down to message 6 where the subject changes to "Very helpful software" and the discussion goes in the direction of mind maps.

Question: Has anyone used FreeMind which is open-source and written in Java. I read about it and it looks pretty good. Has anyone had any problems downloading this software? You know, bugs, spy ware, crashes, etc. Here is the link: http://freemind.sourceforge.net
