Ok all of you creative people! :)

Know what I can do? Hmmm? I can listen to a conversation without paying attention and tell you the highlights!

Isn't that the coolest gift on earth? You're all probably thinking that's perhaps a silly thing... however... I find it to be the most amazing thing.

I have another idea for you guys too... :) SHOCKING!

On my desk at my day job, I have a pad. Every day I write things on it that I need to do, either for the day or week. So I have one at home right? And one at work. Ok then... THEN what I do, is I take a post it and on my lunch hour, I have say 3 things that I can do within a 4-10 mile radius from my job. I put those few things on that post it.

In order of distance as to the fastest way possible to get it done and come back full circle ok?

The post it comes with me and I place it on my dash. Why? Because it STICKS! that's why! LOL

Lunch is over... list is done. Cool hu? AND I didn't forget a thing...

Cool beans if you ask me.

Sue T. :)

Come on people... anyone else do neat things to enhance their performance other than the norm? Hmmmmm ?

p.s. By the way true to my other post I made on saying the word of the thing you want to do over and over again while you go to the other room I did that just this afternoon... still distracted by other things I "still" remembered to get what I needed when I ran in the house on my errands.

See? So it works... did anyone else try this deliciously simple yet effective idea?

p.s.s. Why a post it you may wonder? it's small and it again ... "IT STICKS!"

It's alot easier then say, a planner... or a pda even which doesn't talk to you. You can always update the other two later because, guess what?

The post it, can STICK to your planner page! and you can update it later. :) Simple ...

Ok, I've had coffee and perhaps I'm a bit slap happy at the moment yet... it "does" stick and that's really cool :)

Eventually someone will have to start talking about the "benefits of ADD right? Hmm?

To me... since I didn't realize it for a number of years... I just recognized that I didn't remember things or got bored so I found ways around that. And they worked for me. In the same breath... things that I really, really wanted to do... I found a way to do and I remembered.

So really... while it's tough to concentrate etc., we can do it. Right? We've proven it in the past, the idea is to find out and think about, "what" pushes your buttons to motivate you...

I know... I didn't say it was fool proof but it has, with things, worked for me.

There are of course those days where I know, it's just not going to happen... the focusing so rather then frustrate myself I simply do something that requires no thought. That's all :)

Hi Stephanie! :)

I have a real love/hate relationship with post-it notes ... yes, they are convenient (although they don't stick to my dashboard, so end up sitting at the bottom of a cup holder).

But they multiply.

I start off writing one little note, and by the end of the day it looks like I'm trying to decorate my desk with little yellow paint chips. Today, I discovered much to my amusement, that I had three pads of post-it notes on the go. Instead of plastering them over the desk, monitor, desk lamp, laptop, wall, and ceiling fan, I've started leaving them on the pad.

You may think that defeats the purpose of peel-and-stick notes, since I'm neither peeling them off the pad or sticking them anywhere (though I'm sure some of you have suggestions!). However, inevitably within one of the three stacked pads of sticky scribbles, I do accomplish tasks I've written down. Of course, I tend to do things out of order, so the sticky aspect lets me remove the offending "done" sheet and reassemble the pad.

I'd be interested in hearing stories about successes with PDA's ... I have three knowledge management programs on my laptop, but I don't carry it from room to room with me ... a good PDA would never leave my side, and if I buy a really good one it can play universal remote too! Plus, I don't think they multiply like those pesky post-it notes, so my desk should end up a lot neater (and less yellow).

LOL :) I like your decorating scheme (yellow post its) I was laughing as I read this. Sadly I'm exhausted and need rest now ...

HOWEVER! I ALSO invested in a small recorder that students use in college. It has I believe 2.5 hrs of recording time on it and a connection and program where I can download it... or would that be upload(?) on my computer and save it forever.

On this I put all my ideas I have while driving the car so I don't forget them. Then I play them back. I'm always pleasantly surprised by the good things I hear :)

They have more expensive models of this type of recorder. Mine was $35.00 and the ones I've seen else where can run up to $100.00. For my purposes, mine is just right.

That "could" alleviate the need for the post its. For now though I'll stick to using it for my thoughts and ideas during the day.

Night all... :)

Sue T.

LOL But they multiply LOL I know exactly what you mean! LOL which by the way is the reason I have a small pad on my desk. I keep a running list and then mark off what I've done. Leaving something less important for the following day in order of priority. In this manner I can do the few things on the post it and know I've accomplished what I need to in that moment.

Nite ...

Remember the image of how to make a "cartoon movie" with a pad and slight changes to the drawings on each page?, that's what I pictured with your "no-peel-no-stick" pad...
(this mind of mine! LOL!)

Now Sue, that idea of the recorder... actually I was looking for pocket recorders just today at the store, because I am always talking out loud my ideas when I'm driving and I can't always reach to my notebook to write them.

Oh lord it's so cool! Course now I have to remember to take it out of my pocket book and type it into the computer LOL haha!

It's a student recorder actually it was 35.00 and came with the things necessary to hook it up to the computer to save for another time in a file. So that was really cool compared to 100.00. All I do is say the idea "idea" into the recorder with a tad bit more to remind me what my thought process was at the time and save it.

Course as of this morning I had 15 ideas waiting patiently to bud into an article or a post or something :)

Yeah, but if I do that with my pad now, it just turns into an incomprehensible blurr ... kinda like a reality-show based on my life :)

Of course, now I'll just *have* to make little post-it note movies ... one more thing to distract me away from my work ...

I'm not a Flash expert, by any means, but I did notice Macromedia has something called Flashpaper. Could that be what it is? Kind of like an animation sketch pad with slight changes to each frame?

I'm starting to think I have an evil twin in Texas ...

I believe FlashPaper is meant as a competitor to PDF format ... with the Macromedia buyout by Adobe, it will be interesting to see how PDF and Flash technologies merge ...

Hey, if we're "twins", do I have to be Danny DeVito, or can I be Arnold?

That will definitely be interesting. My bet is Flashpaper goes the way of the dodo bird.

As for the other, I don't know what your build is like, but my bet is I'm more the Danny Devito type. Although I'm much taller than him (I'm 6 feet), I'm still shaped like him - round. Although I am doing something about it, it will be a LONG process. Besides, I think the Canadian accent is closer to a German accent than a Boston/Texas Southern Drawl combination, eh? :-)

I'm curious what you're talking about with regard to the email exchanges that you're not interested in reading... perhaps I've missed that?

Hey! Do you have something that you would like to share about ADD/ADHD as well? Those of us here would love to hear about how you tackle this as well...

Please, do post more often. :)

Hi Sue,

I figure they were talking about the excessive chatter amongst members named Russ ... what can I say, we got off on a tangent conversation. Who ever would have thought that would happen here?

I finally got my official diagnosis this morning ... the doctor looked at the questionnaire for about 5 seconds and said, Yep, you're ADD.

While I didn't intend on trying any medications (the objective was to confirm what it was, then use the correct tools to deal with it without meds), she gave me samples of a drug Strattera ... does anyone have any experience with this? I was hesitant to try meds because I like who I am, and didn't want to risk a personality change that I've heard about with other drugs that affect brain function. So any info on this new drug would be helpful, otherwise I offer myself up as a guinea pig ...

Staying on the subject (hey, maybe the meds already working!),

Russ

Sue,

I think she was upset that the exchange between myself and Russ Jackman was taking up valuable network space.

Russ,

Check out this thread on this network: Dr. Mercola Fish Oil. I have been on strattera. It worked for me for about two weeks. Then they needed to keep upping the dosage for it to have any effect on me. I got up to 120mg. When I found out that that would cost $350 for a one month supply, with no guarantee that they wouldn't have to further up the dose, I said to heck with it.

I have been following the Fish Oil thread, and even called to find shipping charges to Canada for the one you recommended (will likely order this weekend after I check local health food stores first).

The Strattera process was explained the same ... start at 10, then 18mg, then see how far we have to go. The doctor only has a few others on it, response according to her has been good so far. Plus, she said it only costs about $120 a month (cheaper Canadian drugs, don't ya know, eh!) ... finishing one extra web project a year would cover that.

I share Sue's statement somewhere else, that I too like who I am and appreciate the unique abilities that ADD brings ... intuitive understanding and learning was brought up recently. I don't want any medications to "help me" become a model citizen, I simply want to deal better with some of the frustrating aspects of ADD while enjoying the benefits.

If I ever announce that I've closed my web design shop to take a job on the line at the local auto assembly plant, perhaps you could be kind enough to send a PM and suggest I lower my dosage ;)

Russ,

My guess is that the $120 is for the dosage she currently has you on. Remember, I was on 120mg. The price goes up for stronger dosages. I was taking 3 40mg pills per day.

Drugs are cheaper in Canada, but Strattera is so new, that everyone gets soaked for it.

I totally agree with Sue about not killing off the part of me that makes me who I am. Even though it drives my wife nuts sometimes, even she realizes I'm far better off without the drugs.

I see... Considering this is probably the most active this board has been in quite a while and this is a delicate topic I feel that it's good to talk about things and feel comfortable with one another ... even if we do post small things here and there to each other...

I find nothing wrong with acknowledging one another.

I would still enjoy it if she contributed to the network vs. being seemingly upset over a few friendly posts between the other members.

Sue T.

P.S. I get Dr. Mercola's newsletter as well I posted.. I think on this network, about the same articles on Omega 3/fish oils... Hmm could have been my network too... off hand I can't remember.

LOL Now this is funny! You thought twins?

Until I went back and forth a couple times I kept seeing Russ Russ Russ but never checked the last name so I'm thinking....

My god this guys' talking to "himself?" LOL hahahahaaaaaa!!! Then I realized (dugh)

The other message around here said something about (I've gotten the two threads mixed up at this point ...) .. he said...

Some where around here etc., wow I use that all the time!

Here is another positive of having ADD ... ready?

:) We help others feel really important. Why? Because there are some things that I just do not retain. So in asking someone else to share their expertise about it, they get to feel great sharing :) and I get to hear it "again!" :)

:) I'm informed and they're knowledgeable :)

Sue
